About Me

Ellen Bennett has been the Lifespan Respite Coordinator for the Eastern service area for the past six years. She handles Douglas and Sarpy counties. Ellen has an office at Munroe-Meyer Institute at UNMC in Omaha, NE and shares resources and information with people from across the state. She is partnering with the Nebraska Lifespan Respite Network/ Department of Health and Human Services to increase awareness of Respite Resources. The most rewarding part of the position is helping family caregivers get that brief break and knowing they can return to their role of caregiver refreshed. She is married with three children, and her oldest son has experienced depression and anxiety issues. She was also a long-distance caregiver for her elderly mother for many years until she passed in 2018. Even though Ellen is a transplant from Iowa (Go Iowa State!!), she is learning how large the state of Nebraska is. She enjoys music, reading, traveling, photography and spending time with her family.
